2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pleasant Home completed the 2016 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Pleasant Home just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region two with a 3-4 region record. The Eagles improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2011. The 303 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season. The Eagles hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Mercer saw improvement as they won six games following a 1-9 record in 2015. Since 2010, Pleasant Home has gone a combined 26-47. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, Pleasant Home has managed to compile a record of 60-113. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 1A and 316th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Chris Mason leaves Pleasant Home after three seasons with a 7-3 record. After an initial 0-10 season his teams improved each year. The last finished with a 6-4 record. Richard Mercer will be the head football coach at Pleasant Home for the 2017 season. He came to the school with Chris Mason three years ago and served as an assist coach at with the program. Mercer was the head coach at Satsuma during the 2011 season when the Gators finished with a 0-10 record. The Pleasant Home Eagles will play in Class 1A region two during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Unfortunately, Pleasant Home finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. Pleasant Home has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2012 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Fruitdale on Friday, September 1. Last year the Fruitdale Pirates finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 1A region one. Pleasant Home and Fruitdale have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-0-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2016 with Pleasant Home winning by a score of 21-16. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
